The Vocational Adjustment Cooperative (VAC) Program Overview
The VAC Program is a branch of the Transition Services.
The Vocational Adjustment Cooperative (VAC) Program is a work/study program designed to transition students with disabilities into the world of work while they are still earning their academic credits. Vocational training and job experience are combined with academic courses in a special curriculum that leads to maximum development of employment potential.
All students who are eligible for special education services may participate in the VAC Program. On-the-job training begins at age 16 and/or when the ARD committee determines the student has earned sufficient credits toward graduation. Each student continues with academic subjects in a self-contained environment and/or in mainstream classes while in VAC. Students can earn credit toward high school graduation through the VAC Program. In the VAC Program, emphasis is placed on teaching students the necessary attitudes, habits, behaviors and skills required to obtain and maintain a job in the community. Supervision of students on the job site is provided and communication between the employer, the student and the parent is maintained.
