John’s Success Story

John has been happily employed at NorthPark Mall in Dallas, Texas since January 2003.  His prior work experiences have been at Dallas Public Library, Skillman Church of Christ and Super Target.  John graduated from Lake Highland High School in 2002.  He is a graduate of the Richardson Transition Program.  John enjoys working and helping people in NorhPark Mall.  Some of his responsibilities include keeping brochures fill-up in the kiosk (information center), preparing newsletter packets, copying, delivering memos and correspondence to store managers and providing customer service to NorthPark shoppers.  John states “Things that use to be hard for me to do are now easier because of my experiences at NorthPark Mall”.  John says that he use to have to be forced to try new things now that he has gained confidence he is more willing to venture out.  John took the Employability Skills Class at Richland Community College.  In this continuing education course he practiced skills such as team work, accepting criticism, interview skills, etc.  John explains that he is always looking for ways to help out at NorthPark Mall.  He says “ I don’t wait to be told what to do, I try to think ahead and problem solve.  If I do have a problem I know that I can ask Lona Baker, my boss for help. John knows that he can do the job and is a very loyal employee to NorthPark Mall.  And to think he use to be shy….
