Daisy
Daisy has proven to be a very successful student. She has shown initiative in utilizing the bus, registering for her classes at Richland and being on time for her volunteer job at Baylor Garland Medical Center. The first indication that she was successful was when she got herself to Richland College to register for a class. The weather was terrible that day but that didn’t stop her. She took the DART bus without any assistance from her family and went to Richland to get signed up with the Disability Services Office. She indicated to them who she was in the Transition Services Program and took care of getting signed up, all independently. She has been very dependable and reliable in riding the city bus. When she began the program, she had only ridden the school bus. After just a short training period she was consistently riding the city bus to her volunteer job and to Richland College. Very few students have as many obstacles to overcome to make it to their job. She has to get herself up because her parents both work early. She usually has to get her three year old brother up and walk him across a major street to the babysitter’s apartment. Daisy did not let this stop her in making it to her volunteer job as well as her classes at Richland. Daisy has also excelled in being responsible at her volunteer job at Baylor Garland Medical Center. She has never taken a day off and is always punctual. One of the obstacles she faced in keeping this job was to buy special pants and shoes for her uniform. She very responsibly bought the required clothing even though financially it wasn’t easy for her family. She always wears the required name tag, signs in correctly and reports to her job on time. Daisy is a wonderful success. Her good work habits have paid off and she now has a paid job in the evenings working at a Nursing Home.
